In-Character Information
Name: Bean the Dynamite
Game/Series: Sonic the hedgehog (Sonic the Fighters specifically)
Teacher/Student/Other: Student
Canon Point: Some point after Sonic the Fighters, (and also after his and Bark's guest appearances in Virtua Fighter 2)
Age: 14
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: Freshman
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorm
Personality:
Being the son/nephew of the Dynamite Dux, and having the ability to spontaneously generate his own explosives at will as a super power, it should come as a surprise to no one that Bean is a big fan of explosions. In fact Bean often seems to believe that there is no situation that can not be resolved with a liberal amount of explosions. This is... not entirely true (for one thing he can use his beak to attack too in a pinch), but he does miss use his powers enough to cause quite a bit of property damage if not kept in check. He's not a person known for thinking things through, and often acts without thinking, and isn't always properly regretful when things get out of hand. If say, he accidentally blows up a dorm wall, he might be a little sheepish, but so long as no one was hurt he'll laugh it off.
He has a rather short attention span and is easily distracted, so he'd probably make a horrible student. He'd probably be the kind of kid who'd get bored really easily, and skip classes to go find something more worth his time, but he doesn't really have much choice but to be here so hopefully he'll settle down before he gets into too much trouble with the teachers.
Bean is a pretty friendly duck with a cheerful disposition who gets along with most people if given half a chance, but his somewhat careless and energetic personality and his affinity for things that go boom does tend to put people off. Still he can be a good friend to those who get to know him and it's not as if bombs are the only thing he's interested in. He's a big fan of cartoons and superhero comics for one thing, and he also likes sports, mostly tournament fighting, but he enjoys playing Soccer too (one of his other guest appearances in other video games was on a special unlockable team in Virtua Striker 2 in fact). He also loves a good adventure and being an adventurer and traveling the world is an ambition of his he'd already started to pursue before he entered smash academy.
Backstory: As already mentioned Bean is the son of Bin and nephew of Pin of the Dynamite Dux. Because of this, he's spent most of his life learning the explosive combat skills of his family. He has the ability to spontaneously generate his own explosives, anything from something as weak as a firecracker to something as strong as dynamite or one of those big black cartoon bombs, though he might be able to manage something stronger with a bit of training, maybe. Unfortunately, his somewhat impulsive and careless nature sometimes got in the way of his ability to use his powers properly, leading him to cause unnecessary property damage, something that was frowned upon by the neighbors.
At one point he came across a shiny green gem stone that glowed strangely while out exploring near his home town. Not too long afterward he heard of a fighting tournament asking anyone who possessed similarly shaped stones to participate for the chance to collect the rest and use them to fight Eggman, who had built another Death Egg. Partly due to curiosity and partly because he was bored and it looked like fun, Bean decided to enter the tournament. He did fairly well, but in the end he was beaten by Sonic, who went on to win the tournament. Still, he had fun, and he ended up meeting a Polar Bear named Bark there who he immediately became best buddies with.
The two went on a few adventures together, participating in a couple other fighting tournaments as a team, but then Bin found out about Smash Academy and decided to send Bean there in hopes of him learning to control his powers away from where the neighbors might complain, and also in hopes of him getting a more extensive education. Bean wasn't pleased with this, but he wasn't given much of a choice, and so he was packed off to Final Destination City.
Anything Else?:
Just to make things clear; I stopped reading Archie comics before Bean and Bark showed up so while there are some similarities this Bean will not really have the same personality as Archie Sonic's version. For one thing he isn't exactly crazy, just kind of careless.
I did however take the bit where he can generate his own bombs at will from Archie, although I may have tweaked it a little. It sounded like it fit him and has the potential for fun.
In-Character 1st person sample:
Woohoo! That was great! I totally kicked that guy's butt back there! Better luck next time guy!
I didn't think I'd like this place much at first, but I guess it isn't so bad here, other than homework anyway. I mean, fighting in the school stadium is way more fun than any of the stadiums me and Bark fought in back home! There's all kinds of explody stuff to play with! Like those sticky bombs. Those are cool. I wonder if I can figure out how to make one of those?
Heheheh kinda makes me wish Bark was here too. I can't wait to fight in there again.
In-Character 3rd person sample:
He was only going into his room for a minute to drop off his school stuff so he could hang out with his friends for the rest of the day when, just as he was opening the door, he thought he heard a loud crash on the other side.
“What the-?” He opened the door the rest of the way, “Whoa! What the heck?”
One of the walls had been partially destroyed, by what looked like a go-kart crashing into it. He was almost disappointed, because he'd thought for a moment someone had blown his wall up, but this was still the most interesting thing to happen all week,
(and it was probably for the best anyway since that probably would've caused more damage and his stuff was in here,) so he just stepped inside to get a better look.
"Omigod I am so sorry!" The student driving the kart cried. "Are you alright?"
Bean laughed, moving closer while picking through the debris. "Of course I am! I only just walked in. Wow, you sure made a mess of that thing didn't you?"
The little green duck glanced over the wreck of a go-kart with a slight grin, more amused than anything else. "If anything, I should probably be asking if you're alright." He said lightly.
"I'm... fine..." the student started to climb out. "But what about your room?"
This got a laugh. "Oh, don't worry about me! You mostly got my roommate's side! I'd be more worried about how he'll react!" Oh, he realized that probably didn't make the clumsy student feel any better, but it was true! "Don't worry! I'm sure he won't be too mad." Maybe. Probably.
On the other hand, Bean mentally winced at the broken lamp and the damaged bedside table it'd been sitting. That lamp was something his room mate brought from home right? Yeah, maybe he would be a bit mad. Ah, well. At least he wasn't bored.
